Way back in 2016 we told you about the first release of Plan D Articulated Fly Boxes – fly boxes designed specifically to house articulated and ‘stinger-style’ flies (something we use a lot of at our lodges). Read More >>

FLY FIXER – Articulated flies are lethal on steelhead, pike and muskies, but a pain to keep neatly organized. Enter Plan D fly boxes (US$24.99 to US$69.99), which hold jointed flies firmly in place with a series of hooks and foam slots. Sporting rustproof hinges, the impact-resistant plastic boxes come in three sizes for pockets, packs and boats…. Read More >

Since the “10 For Fall” gear review posted, Plan D Fishing Solutions has developed four different Boat options that deserve another look at these stellar “Made in U.S.A.” fly and lure storage options….. If you hunt big fish on the fly rod—like steelhead, pike, muskies and saltwater species—you probably know just how lethal articulated flies can be. You also know that big, two-piece flies are a royal pain to store in traditional fly boxes. That’s why West Coast steelheader Dylan Stanley came up with his patent-pending Plan D boxes for securely holding articulated flies: …… Read More >

I’ve mentioned it before that I am a little bit (okay, a lot) OCD and though I had come to terms in my brain that swing flies work just fine in fleece lined wallets or zip lock bags, when I came across the Plan D Fishing Solutions fly boxes, I immediately saw a cure to any disorganization…… Read More >

There are a lot of fly boxes on the Market today and most of them are designed very well, but tend to be somewhat repetitive.  Today’s current fly tying craze incorporates a lot of “shanks” in the fly design and the current fly box designs on the market today do not allow these flies to be secured properly.

We tie a lot of “intruder” style spey flies for steelhead in our region and the fly design typically has a hook in the rear of the fly attached to a “shank”….. Read More >

From swinging flies for anadramous fish, to banging the banks with streamers, to skating mouse flies for trout, we fish a lot of articulated and stinger-style flies over the course of the year. However, until now we’ve yet to find a great way to store them.

We’ve long been fans of simple Plano Boxes for housing the majority of our flies, particularly larger patterns. They do a great job of housing a whole bunch of flies, but the errant nature of articulated flies that gives them their uninhibited action in the water can also make a mess out of your box. Reach for one fly and pull out a mess of a dozen entangled stinger hooks and bunny strips.. Sound familiar?….. Read More >

Testimonial: The Plan D Pocket Box is the perfect container for an angler or guide for a day’s fishing on most steelhead rivers. It holds a mixture of intruders and classic bucktails, while keeping them separated, organised, easily accessible and secure. During the last winter steelhead season the Plan D Articulated Fly Box took the market by storm. It is a specialized box specifically made to keep 20 Intruders and/or other large articulated shank flies organized and readily accessible. Now nearly every steelheader has one (or several) in their boat bag or their waterproof fanny pack. This year Plan D added a smaller box that fits into your vest or shirt pocket. This box is designed to hold 8 Intruders of most any size to five inches long. As I found out, there is plenty of room for 8 two to four inch Intruders with enough room left over for an additional 8 traditional bucktail type summer steelhead or Atlantic salmon flies. This is the perfect working box for a guide, or angler fishing for summer steelhead throughout their range.
